MI for Healthcare Professionals (Online, Introductory)

Motivational Interviewing for Healthcare Professionals

This webinar will equip learners with information and evidence-based tools for cultivating patient engagement, eliciting patient motivation for behavioral change, and softening discord in the patient-healthcare professional relationship.

Date: Friday, October 25, 2024 from 8:00am to 3:30pm (PST)

Location: Live Online Webinar

Presenter: Valerie Hoover, PhD. Dr. Hoover is a licensed clinical psychologist in California; Adjunct Clinical Instructor at Stanford University, Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences; and a MINT-Certified Motivational Interviewing trainer. Dr. Hoover is also the owner of VJH Training & Consulting LLC, which provides Motivational Interviewing (MI) training and consulting services to medical and behavioral healthcare organizations.

Overview: Effective management of chronic health conditions requires patient activation to engage in self-management behaviors. However, providing patient education alone is often insufficient to produce patient adherence to lifestyle behavior changes and other medical recommendations. Furthermore, attempts to convince or persuade patients to make changes can paradoxically result in patient maintenance of the status quo, particularly among patients who are ambivalent or lack confidence in making behavioral changes.

MI is a brief, evidence-based communication approach for strengthening patient engagement and eliciting patients’ intrinsic motivation for behavior change. MI is time-efficient and can be applied strategically in a single patient encounter or longitudinally over multiple patient visits.

Registration Fee: $159 per person
