Introduction to Motivational Interviewing
Monday, September 14 & Tuesday, September 15 | 9 AM – 1 PM ET / 13:00 - 17:00 UTC each day | Includes 1, 30-minute break | Virtual (Zoom)
This training is designed for anyone new to Motivational Interviewing (MI) or those looking for a refresher, regardless of professional background or experience level. It's split over two days in 4-hour sessions, and tends to be a great fit for healthcare workers, therapists, social workers, peer counselors, and graduate students.
In this experiential and didactic training (meaning you can expect both instruction and hands-on practice activities) you will learn about and practice the fundamentals of MI using a variety of case examples relevant to your work. We will explore both the relational and technical components (Spirit + Skills) of MI, with a focus on OARS+1: open questions, affirmations, reflections, summaries, and advice with permission. The training will include individual reflection, group discussion, and breakout room activities.
This training is eligible for 7 continuing education credits. To receive a Certificate of Completion and/or Continuing Education Unit, learners must attend the full session with audio and video on and complete a training evaluation. As an approved CE provider through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency, these requirements are necessary to maintain training integrity and meet provider standards. All learners receive the same documentation; however, whether it functions as a Continuing Education Unit or a Certificate of Completion depends on your jurisdiction. Learners outside of Indiana (including internationally) are encouraged to submit their documentation to their licensing or credentialing board for review and possible approval.

A note from Marian: I put a lot of heart into the trainings I create and facilitate. MI has given me a lifeline professionally and changed me personally, and that is just the type of experience I seek to create for others who are interested in MI. You can learn more about me on my website (www.marianrigsbee.com), in my Trainer Profile below, or on Instagram (@therapyandtrainingwithmarian) to get a sense of what learning together can look like. I hope you’ll join.
