Introduction to Motivational Interviewing 13-Hour Training | 2 Days | In-Person

This two-day, 13-hour introductory training offers care managers a grounded foundation in Motivational Interviewing: what it is, why it works, and how to actually use it. Designed for practitioners with some awareness of MI but little to no formal training, this course moves beyond surface-level familiarity and into the real skills behind effective, collaborative practice.

Through a mix of direct instruction, experiential activities, and skills practice, participants explore the Spirit of MI- the relational foundation that makes the method work- alongside the four tasks of MI (Engaging, Focusing, Evoking, and Planning) and the core communication skills of OARS (Open questions, Affirming, Reflecting, and Summarizing). Participants also learn the Ask-Offer-Ask framework for exchanging information in a way that honors client autonomy and keeps conversations collaborative rather than prescriptive.

By the end of the training, participants leave with a conceptual understanding of MI's evidence base and a beginning set of practical skills they can start applying right away.
