Macro Motivational Interviewing: Utilizing the Spirit of MI to Contextualize Clients Within Systems of Oppression and Supportive Community Environments

  • Do you work with clients that are harmed by oppressive systems?
  • Do you want to increase your skills around discussing potential systems that harm your clients experience?
  • Do you want to increase your comfort engaging in meaningful cultural conversations with your clients?
  • Are you interested in empowering clients to identify and utilize existing community resiliency resources?

We traditionally think about Motivational Interviewing as a conversation style used with clients or in groups (micro applications). Did you know MI can also be applied within systems (macro)?
This 2-hour webinar will provide attendees with a foundational understanding of Macro MI, with a focus on the utilization of the Spirit of MI to understand a client’s systems experience.
The webinar facilitators will discuss the way in which providers can contextualize themselves within their communities, and larger systems, and use this understanding to better assess a client’s system experience. Attendees will learn concrete assessment skills that enhance their understanding of a client’s day-to-day experience of culture, systems currently harming the client, and potential and existing communities of resiliency.
