Amongst this COVID-19 crisis, many clients are either dropping out of services or struggling to gain focus. People are struggling to operate out of “whole brain,” making decisions out of fight, flight or freeze states. As helping professionals, WE need to focus ourselves to keep up the good work!! This is a 4-week live virtual course via Zoom platform, meeting 8:45a-10aEST on Fridays. Total hours, 5.

Objectives for Course

  • Describe and gain skills in each of the first two process of MI: Engagement & Focusing
  • Engagement: Learn ways to engage difficult-to-engage clients & address re-engagement issues
  • Focusing: Learn how to create focus with multiple target behaviors, setting agendas when faced with multiple challenges, and other tools for enhancing collaboration
  • Practice MI core communication skills (OARS)
  • Reinvigorate the MI spirit into practice: compassion, autonomy, evoking, and collaboration
  • Increase confidence utilizing MI framework to engage effectively with clients & focus on target behavior changes
  • Review methods for evoking intrinsic motivation with clients
  • Discuss and explore ethical elements of use of MI with clients
