Advanced Motivational Interviewing (up to 15 participants)
Motivational interviewing (MI) is a client-centered, evidence-based, goal-oriented method for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence with the individual. This active, skill-building workshop provides participants with an understanding of the benchmarks for competent MI practice, as well as opportunities to build skills toward those benchmarks in practice conversations. Participants will also learn to integrate Brief Action Planning into their use of MI, and are encouraged to consider ongoing training and coached practice to continue to develop their skills. Participants should participate in Basic and Intermediate Motivational Interviewing courses before taking this course, as the level and pace of the course will assume a thorough knowledge of MI.
The Advanced Motivational Interviewing workshop is six hours in length, and is delivered via the Zoom platform over two days. Each session is three hours and fifteen minutes in length to allow for a break, and will run from 1pm to 4:15pm Eastern Standard Time (EST). This course is approved for continuing education credit by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB), National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC), and the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC). Participants must attend both sessions in their entirety and complete a course evaluation to receive a certificate of completion and continuing education credit, if applicable.
