Abstract | (from the chapter) Clinical governance requires professionals to demonstrate that interventions are delivered in a structured manner that is consistent with best practice protocols. The challenge is to enable practitioners to achieve and maintain competence to practise consistently over time. In the UK Alcohol Treatment Trial (UKATT Research Team 2001) supervision of Motivational Enhancement Therapy (described in Chapter 10 of this book) was offered in the style of motivational interviewing, which appeared to facilitate learning. This chapter outlines a method of supervising in this way and documents a specific case for illustration. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved) (chapter) |
