Abstract | (from the chapter) In this chapter we describe a study which compares the training, implementation and outcomes of a motivational interviewing approach versus a confrontational approach in a coercive setting. We report perceptions of the effectiveness of the approach, differences in delivery between motivational interviewing and a standard approach and in outcome between the two approaches.
