Abstract

Helping people change may be considered the primary goal not only of Christian psychology practice, but also of Christian ministries as well. Motivational interviewing (MI) is an increasingly empirically supported approach to motivating and helping people change, for the treatment of psychological disorders, and health risk prevention and intervention. Because of MI's usefulness in facilitating behavior change across a variety of problem and population areas, and due to its incorporation of what appear to be biblically-sound spiritual concepts and approaches, it may be particularly suitable for application to Christian therapy and church ministry as a whole.
