Abstract

(from the chapter) This article describes the process of 60 Motivational Interviewing (MI) or Adapted Motivational Interviewing (AMI) interventions reported in the literature between 1986 and 2002. Examination of the articles revealed a gap in our understanding of whether or not MI/AMI is effective and the process by which it is effective. An intervention-process research framework is suggested for future research in order to reduce this gap in our knowledge of psychotherapeutic and addiction treatment techniques.
