Abstract | (from the chapter) This chapter focuses on introducing readers to an evidence-based method of substance abuse treatments: motivational interviewing (MI). Theoretical assumptions of MI are discussed, as is current research indicating how it can be useful with drug and alcohol abusers, including evidence of limitations in applicability. Some obstacles to implementing MI within current treatment systems also are interviewed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved) (chapter) |
