Abstract

This paper describes the use of internal psychology in the management of chronic disease, and the potential of methods such as reality therapy and motivational interviewing to facilitate behavioral change. A case example and tools such as SMART goal setting have been included, as well as counseling principles with reality therapy to illustrate the process that can be followed.
