Abstract | This paper describes the use of internal psychology in the management of chronic disease, and the potential of methods such as reality therapy and motivational interviewing to facilitate behavioral change. A case example and tools such as SMART goal setting have been included, as well as counseling principles with reality therapy to illustrate the process that can be followed.
