(from the chapter) In this chapter, we explore the fundamentals of motivation and change, first by presenting prior commonly held views about motivation and change in addictions treatment, then by describing Motivational Interviewing and the Stages of Change model, and finally by examining what Motivational Interviewing and other psychotherapies have in common.
