This 2 day non-residential course in Birmingham introduces the core principles of motivational interviewing and provides practice in the essential skills applied in a range of settings. Participants are welcome from any setting, for example, health, criminal justice, education and employment.
By the end of the course participants will be able to discuss the concept of motivation and relate it to a model of the way people change. They will be able to make a realistic assessment of a client’s motivation, use their interviewing and counselling skills to elicit and foster the client’s wish to change and will have increased their effectiveness with clients who are resistant to changing risk behaviour.
