Chicago, IL, Intermediate

This interactive workshop seeks to build the skills of practitioners who have learned the fundamentals of Motivational Interviewing and are interested in further expanding their proficiency.  The workshop will review the traps that practitioners can fall into that result in discord and sustain talk, while further augmenting the empathic skills of reflective listening.  Workshop participants will have an opportunity to practice complex reflections and expand the ways to respond to change talk to maximize the commitment to change.  Effort will be used to model ways to develop trust and rapport with students, clients, patients or charges.  To make the workshop engaging, the use of role-plays, demonstrations, video clips, technology and interactive practice and review activities will be used, with an emphasis on experiential learning.
