More About Me

About Me

Scott Kerby, LPC, now works as the Assistant Director of Clinical Training and Development for Burrell Behavioral Health. He continues to train Motivational Interviewing(MI) across the United States.   Scott provides MI trainings as a consultant for the Missouri Coalition of Behavioral Healthcare, and previously for the Mid-Amercia Addiction Technology Tranfer Center (ATTC).  He has been a featured speaker at Kansas University, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Truman Medical Center, University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a variety of schools and churches in the community.   Scott has 16 years of experience in both substance abuse and mental health counseling, and over 25 years of experience working with at risk youth and families.  He has a passion for working with “hard to reach” clients who tend to be marginalized and cast aside.  Scott holds a MA in Counseling from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a BS in Human Services from Missouri Baptist University.  Scott is known for his quick wit, sense of humor, positive attitude, and commitment to bettering himself and those around him.  He has a love of good books, improvisational comedy, differing worldviews, travel, public speaking, coaching little league, cognitive behavioral therapy, and adventures with his wife, Sara, of 24 years.  Scott is also a licensed and ordained minister who enjoys blending the secular with the sacred, often in an irreverent, thought-provoking manner.

Trainer Statement

My goal as a trainer is to provide a rich, interactive experience that also encourages continued learning and  avenues for continued growth.  I am comfortable teaching groups of all sizes and adapting the training to the needs of person/organization.  This includes brief introductions to Motivational Interviewing, interactive multiday experiences, and ongoing supervision/coaching.  My hope is that MI is not just another training for people, who then put their binder on the shelf to gather dust, but something that becomes an integrated part of their everyday practice with the clients/patients they serve.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
